I’ve got another house word into Urban Dictionary:

facadomized
The state of a house that has been aesthetically mangled during a cheap renovation. Usually involves the loss of much original detail and the use of inappropriately small windows.

After 4 1/2 years in the house, we finally got the will together to bust up into the attic last week.

Given the things that we’ve found before, we completely expected the attic to be packed with bones and poop.

I’ve lost some sleep thinking about this wiring.

Dry! No poop! No evil clowns!

We installed a set [...]

The framing inspection on the porch went well, and we’ve* since put down the tongue&groove floor and rebuilt the bottoms of the columns.

The porch roof had been jacked up on 2×10s for something like 8 weeks, it is nice to see them gone.

The crumbling brick piers that were supporting the porch went down about a foot into the dirt and then just stopped. This time around we’ve dug fairly substantial holes and filled them with cement.

Digging for the footers was not difficult but not really fun, either. The soil is mostly compacted sand, with clay under there [...]

In addition to the opossum mummy, we also pulled a few 1960s/1970s bottles out from under the porch.

The bottle on the left, Climax ginger ale, seems to have been fairly Richmond-specific. I haven’t been able to track down much about them. The others are Nehi, R.C. Cola, and Pepsi.

We had the fir tongue& groove flooring delivered by Siewer’s Kumber and Millwork late last week. Siewer’s continues to be one of the best experiences of working on this house.
