refinished floors
In what was the last hurdle to actually being able to live downstairs, the floors downstairs have been de-painted, unsplintered, sanded, and refinished. And they are bee-yoo-tee-full!

The floor guys were able to start a day earlier that we’d expected. Day 1 was a heavy sanding of the 3 rooms and the hallway.

We’ve gotten a quote about getting our floors downstairs refinished from the talented Joe Bell (who did the upstairs floors 3 freakin’ years ago). More on this as it develops…

Day three was much like day two, only with a little drama in the mix.

Today the new walls were given the first application of tape and drywall compound. (and it sure is much easier to find time to write about this stuff when someone else is doing all of the work…)

The 3-man crew was here yesterday for just over 12 hours and did manage to hang the entire space downstairs. Today there is one guy on stilts taping and mudding; it is much more quiet…

we have a drywall crew in the house
It is always weird to have contractors in the house. We generally like them as people and *love* having the work done, but there is always anxiety when there are other people banging around down there.

After a few final days of getting the spaces ready and 30 freakin’ months after we started demolition, the process of putting up drywall starts tomorrow.
