towards having new front steps

Last May, the city got on us for a few of our myriad code violations. We were busted for having peeling paint, no handrail, a broken fence out back, and crumbly steps. We were able to take care of the first 3 last summer, but left the steps alone having run out of time and money. Now it is time for the steps…

The city did not kindly forget about us over the winter: we got another letter in the mail a few weeks ago, this time with only the crumbly steps as our violation. We found a few guys to talk to about the job. Our initial intent was to patch and pray that it held, but it turns out that the steps were in such poor shape that this would’ve been a very short term fix.

We’ve got a guy instead to rip out what needs to be taken out and rebuild new cement steps for us. Yesterday he came and did some exploratory demo; today we have no steps at all.

You could take the handrail down, plant grass, and then when the code enforcement people come back you say, “Steps? What steps?”
