front porch rebuild!

Jim from Reveal, Inc and I will be rebuilding the flooring and supports of our front porch over the next 2 or 3 weeks.

old porch

We had the fir tongue& groove flooring delivered by Siewer’s Kumber and Millwork late last week. Siewer’s continues to be one of the best experiences of working on this house.

Today we aim to get the porch roof supported and then demo the floor and framing underneath. All of this is pretty termite damaged and should come out easy enough. We expect that the brick piers may need to be rebuilt and that there may be sill plate damage as well.

ahhh! your porch details are beautiful. I’m so jealous. I wish mine were still on my house.

I agree with Jene. If you’ve had a chance to look at our site our porch is a mish mash of salvaging but all of the original details are long gone. We are currently trying to decide to just start from scractch and tear it all out save for the roof. On this matter I know we need a consultant cause I haven’t found anything on web. This house was built 1852 and has long since settled. So we are not sure if we should remove the cinder block surround which was clearly added since they didn’t exist at the turn of the century. Ahhh just have to keep digging for answers so to speak.
