patching holes in the plaster

We haven’t taken on any large jobs over the holiday break, just patching a few of the remaining holes (that have been around long enough that we’ve grown used to seeing them and tend to forget that they are there.)

This is the front corner of the house and the wall of our bedroom. There was a leak here for years and years, with the water leading to damage and termites. This is the corner above the worst that we found downstairs.
We pulled some of this plaster down and patched with drywall, though is definitely a patch job and not a real fix. We found some really gone wood back up in there; this is in the agenda for next summer…

We put this hole in the hallway ceiling ourselves, tracking a persistent leak that has vexed us since the day that we moved in. After as many times as we’ve ‘fixed’ this leak only to have it reappear, we’re still not really convinced that it has been taken care of. For peace of mind, we put a baking pan above the rafters where the leak used to be. This is something to look at further on once we’re on the upstairs and attic for real.

We also made a few runs to the dump, clearing out the summer’s left over debris and other accumulated crap. This includes as many tires as I can grab from the neighborhood alleys, about which I still feel shifty even in my new truck and 2 years after being banned from the dump.
