what is this plant? (#2)

We’ve been in an epic battle with this weed all summer and we do not know what to call it.

This weed has been growing scattered all over the yard. The most notable physical attribute seems to be the one big root (which makes pulling them easy enough…). The plant starts off with one stem with a cluster of the little pods (as seen on the top right of the photo), and then thickens and branches.

This seemed to work last time — can anyone identify this plant?
