ok, here we go…

School is mostly out and we’re gearing up to get some good stuff done on the house over the next few weeks…

We’ve starting to get close to our deadline for the tax abatement, so we’re going to have to really stick to this over the next 7 or 8 weeks. The 2 big projects are to get walls up downstairs and get the outside of the house painted, which together will completely change how we experience living here.

Since we basically dropped out back in the fall, we’ve been able to find the time to do the smaller projects around here that make living here better. We had a great burst of energy when spring first hit and managed to install a new porch door upstairs, which caused us to focus on the hallway a little more which led to starting to cleanup the grubby hallway walls and finally replacing the missing balustrade. We’ve been patching holes in the plaster and painting out there and it is really coming out nice (more on that in a few days…).

The hallway is also where we’ve been experiencing the persistent roof leak. We’ve been heartbreakingly tarring the roof in the wrong spots for a few months. The cool thing is that this might be fixed; we’ve thought that before, though. We just had some hellacious rain and we stayed dry, so this might be for real this time. If we stay dry for a few more rains, we’ll be able to close up that hole in the ceiling and really finish working in the hall for a while.

The big thing right now is to get the downstairs ready for the drywall. This means finishing the remaining electrical work & getting that inspected and then finishing the insulation. We can’t really imagine the downstairs with walls up.

After the downstairs gets to certain point, we’ll move outside and finish replacing the rotted siding. After that, we’re going to paint! It’ll be mindblowing to get some color on the house.
