pigeons-eye view
Like snow, a satellite image of the neighborhood makes everything look clean…
The photo comes from Microsoft’s local.live.com, which balked at Apple’s Safari but worked fine with Firefox.

How do you get such nice photos of your place? I tried the site and for our house I get a more blurry shot without the nice angle.
Probably because you’re in Bill Gates’ neck of the woods… ;-)
Oh, wait, your not near Seattle at all…I was thinking of PigeonPointProject. Never mind.
Way cool! Jackson is too small and well, nowhere to warrant the up-close and personal pics. I would have loved this when I was looking for a home here.
who’s house is that with the RED roof?
Oh, I was so excited when I saw this. But they don’t have any images of my house. I must live in the sticks. Darn. I’ll have to remember this and keep checking back…maybe someday my little town will be on there.
Clay - The red roof is where the sheriff’s deputy lives. They moved in about 6 months after we did.
Well I guess we won’t be growing reefer in YOUR house, then.
They got inra-red now in the satellites, you know. Plus, with that house, no way to protect against
ZOMBIES.

That’s amazing. Mine showed up too. I’ll post soon. Thanks for the link John.
John,
That local live website is great. I’m buying a house near you on the 1400 block of 23rd, and I could see it from the satellite image very well. I also scanned around the neighborhood and it was very entertaining. I discovered there are tennis courts just three blocks north of me, of which I had no idea. Love your website, neighbor!
Hey I just came across your blog while searching for blogs in/about Richmond. I’m looking to buy a house in August/September of this year and have been seriously considering Church Hill. Very nice to know that there’s so much positive work being done in the area. Anyone you would suggest I talk to while getting started on this process? I’m 27 and definitely looking for a house that will need some love–not something that could be lived in for 30 years without incident. Thanks for any suggestions.
We found our house by just driving the streets… We started at Broad St and drove north on a number street until it got too scary and the moved over to the next one. Our house wasn’t even really for sale, but was sitting empty. We called the owner up and he agreed to sell to us. It was kind of random, but it worked.
We got the house owner/phone info from Better Housing Coalition. They fix&sell houses to first-time home owners, and they also just know *a lot* about the real estate in the affordable areas. They might want to sell to you, or if you are looking for more of a project they might be able to point you towards something interesting.
ACORN usually has a few properties listed, in various stages of needing work.
The city site has also listings for Church Hill and Union Hill properties that are for sale.
The city site also has assessment/footage/services/contact info/etc info for any address in the city. For instance, this is a property nearby that is currently undergoing renovation.
You should buy this house (info) and fix it up real nice. There is larger brick house next door to that if you need more space :)
