perfect plumbing indeed
Three days after discovering the leak, everything is ok.
We’d recently had plumbers from Perfect Plumbing out to replace some faucets for us and had been very satisfied with their work, so we called them when we discovered that we had the leak in the front yard. They sent guys out to assess the situation on Monday and had a quote to us on Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon a guy from Miss Utility came out and marked our water, sewer, and gas lines on the yard in neon spray paint.
Today, on Wednesday, the plumbers came out and made everything ok again. Having been under the impression that they might be able to start by the end of the week, it was a nice surprise to come home and have water. Apparently they had massaged their scheduling, knowing that we were without water. Nice, eh?
They dug a mighty trench down the side of the house from the city meter to where our bathroom should be. They then ran a black-plastic-coated copper pipe to replace the old and busted line and hooked up a new master shut-off. One of the unforeseen benefits from having this done is now having a main shut-off inside the house. The new pipe 1″ pipe should also provide us with better water pressure than the old 3/4″ pipe.
So, if you need a plumber in the Richmond, VA., area, we can, without reservation, recommend calling Perfect Plumbing at (804) 276-2385.

They sound like a good outfit. I’m glad to hear they worked you in and not only fixed the leak but improved the whole thing by putting a main shut-off in the house.
I always enjoy a good recommendation, especially a plumber. Too bad Mike isn’t nearby. He’s my first choice.
m - I spoke to Emerson about this, to see if this was something that could be fixed smaller. We ended up swapping crawlspace stories, and he totally wins for all time: He was telling me about a day spent under a house working on some pipes. There was a loose piece of insulation that he was partially laying on while doing this. Ultimately the loose insulation was discovered to be a decomposed dog… So if anyone in Staunton, VA, needs a diligent plumber, we know a good one there, too.
