stair dust corners
Part of this whole process has been learning how to speak the language of a house. We’ve learned words like dentil, soffet, and knob&tube. There are things, though, that we don’t know the real names for, which can make them difficult to learn more about.

At some point over the past year, probably on the NIB Walking Tour, we noticed that one of the restored houses had these small, curved triangles in the corners of the treads of the stairs. Living in a dusty house, we knew immediately that these curvy stair corner dealies would make sweeping the stairs that much easier. It was also a neat place to put a little extra decorative detail.
Lat night, while admiring other hardware that we will eventually need to somehow discover how to pay for, R. found out that thesebeautifully simple pieces are called stair dust corners. You see more examples here (shown above) or here (matte black!).

Ha! I can’t believe these exist, and now will be unable to live without them. How many times have I sat there trying to scrape the dirt out of the corners of my stairs?!
Nice find ;)
Must…buy….stair dust corners! Those are AWESOME!
Fabulous find… Need to troll all the old-house supply sites for Spring 2005. I’ve noticed a lot of folks have had great discoveries lately, especially re hardware and Rejuve.
I have these on E-bay for a good starting price… they go for $34.00 for 12 at RENSUP, mine start at $5.00 for 12.
