the porch is getting fixed!
Despite initial setbacks, we found financing for our porch repair just in time!
Our house had (until today!) a big, rotten 2-story porch on the back of the house. This morning, as we were heading off to work, the guys from RBVA (Restoration Builders of Virginia) showed up to start doing what they seem to do very well.

There used to be a porch and pigeons here.

Saved pieces.
We’ve had a few experiences with incompetent elecricians, racist HVAC people, possibly drunken plumbers and stoned roofers, so it was strange and nice to meet the guys this morning and have real confidence that quality work will get done. So many people that we’ve talked to have treated R. like they need to talk to her man before they can do business, or have talked trash about our neighborhood…
From here, working with these guys seems inevitable. RBVA is actually based in the neighborhood and has done tons of work around the area (like the yellow house here), and one of guys out back today lives just a few blocks up our street. It is his wife, I think, that has posted here before. And I used to work with a younger relative at the cafe.

Hi john, cool site here!! I stumbled across it today while I was looking for resources for some repair on my home over in woodland heights. I have very similar old termite damage in the front right corner of my house. Got to sister some studs and replace sections of sill plate. I’m trying to do as much work as I can myself but as you know it can be a bit daunting. Also Josh from RBVa is a good friend of mine, in fact last year I did a bunch of work on his house in the hill. Small town!!!
