appraisal adventure

We’re still in the process of arranging financing to get our porch fixed. One of the usually minor steps is getting the house appraised. The condition of our house has complicated that, though.

The appraiser came out yesterday morning. She’d said that the would need to be in the house about 20 minutes to measure rooms and get the floor plan. The company had sent a new appraiser-in-training, thinking that this really should be a quick and simple process. She hadn’t, though, been prepared for the fact that we have no interior walls downstairs (along with our multi-siding and termite issues, and didn’t have the experience to know what to do. So we’ve rescheduled for later…

Any chance you could use a home equity line of credit? Wachovia opened ours without an appraisal & without closing costs — might be easier since right now you’re probably in a situation that is more appropriate to a “construction loan.” Also, have you checked out our local favorite place to refinance? http://www.CapCenter.com

We’ve refinanced / purchased with them 4 times and although the deal seems too good to be true it really is!

We haven’t owned the house long enough to get a home equity line of credit. We won’t be eligible for that until the end of December, which is soon, in a way, but after it gets too cold to do part of what we need done.
