casa de esqueletos

We’re working on two parts of the house right now, both of which have turned up small surprises.

Pulling down the ceiling plaster in each room has provided evidence of small animal nesting and/or mummified corpses. We found a bat skeleton in the rubble of the downstairs. The picture below is slightly larger than actual size.

In pulling siding to track and repair leak damage, we were able to see into part of the uncrawlable crawlspace. One of the few things under there is a very clean cat skeleton.

thanks for sharing. i have found many dried goodies in houses I have restored, mostly mice and rats. Your bat and cat definitely trump me. Find any good richmond bottles while crawling under your home?

AH! Do you take finding this stuff as calmly as you report about it or did it freak you out? Poor little kitty.

I’ve found a few older green anonymous bottles. Most of what we’ve found is vintage 90’s ghetto refuse — 40 bottles, underpants (seriously — like 5 or 6 pairs) and discarded plastic children’s toys.

So much early on was so gross that this kind of thing isn’t so bad. What is gets to me are the leaking roof and the termite damage — i.e., things that have to be dealt with. I lose sleep over them some nights wondering if this is really going to work.

    R. found the kitty to be sad, too. I’m not so sure, though. I think that if I were cat I’d freakin’ love it under there, so maybe it had many happy days in that crawl space before it’s time came…
