leak == fixed

We were both working last night when the big rain came, anxiously barista-ing and wondering about how the house was doing. Ronni got home first and called to let me know that our work had made the difference.

To see if there was water getting in, Ronni had to track down the flashlight and then get over to the affected corner, a small adventure in itself. The area that was leaking is over a small window on the second floor. During the last heavy rain, water was getting into the wall and then just cascading down to the window at the first floor. This was readily visible to us as we had semi-recently pulled all of the plaster and lathe off of the wall around that window. As this room is being torn apart, there isn’t a working light, and there are piles of plaster and lathe and a ladder and tools spread around the room — not an easy room to get through in the dark (or first thing in the morning, for that matter).

So — we made it! There is still some ‘need soon but non-emergency’ repair to be done to the siding in that area, but it seems that we have improved some small part of the house this week. And I was finally able to climb a ladder!
